STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — State College police say a woman treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center over the weekend assaulted emergency room staff members and threatened to blow up the emergency room when she was told to leave.
According to a criminal complaint, police were called to the hospital Saturday night for reports of a woman threatening patients and refusing to leave. Medical staff say 59-year-old Susan Smith spat in the face of a female nurse and kicked her in the leg. Another staff member told police Smith scratched him on the arm and hit and kicked him in the ribs and legs, according to the complaint.
The staff also told police Smith threatened to make a fertilizer bomb and blow up the emergency room, the complaint states.
Police say Smith also told people in the hospital she would “contact the KKK because they are n—– lovers.”
Smith was told several times by staff and officers to leave the hospital after being discharged, but she refused, the complaint says. Police say Smith began yelling and screaming and later dropped to the floor, still refusing to leave.
Police say Smith continued making threats and also hit the window of the car several times with her hands and handcuffs.
When officers went to restrain her a second time, there was a strong odor in the vehicle from where Smith removed her pants and defecated inside the car, according to the complaint.
Police say EMS was called after Smith spat at an officer and kicked the car door window and the window between the front and back seats.
EMS arrived and sedated Smith, police say. She was returned to MNMC and remained there until her arraignment the following morning.
Court documents show Smith refused to be arraigned and was taken to Centre County Prison with no bail.
