Spotlight On Paramedic Ben White

— Ben White is a paramedic with AirCare, and an emergency room nurse at Anderson’s Emergency Room.

MERIDIAN, Miss. – Meet First Responder Ben White. White is a nurse, paramedic, and instructor and also works one of the coolest jobs, flying with Air Care.

“I thought I was going to go into law enforcement. I woke up one morning, put my feet on the floor and said, ‘I don’t think I want law enforcement,” White says.

Ben White has been in the business of helping others since 2007. He currently bounces between several jobs in the medical field.

“I work with Pafford Ambulance Service, Meridian Community College where I teach paramedic and I work at Anderson’s ER as an ER nurse,” White says.

White says he joined the medical field after some time in the military.

“I was a diesel mechanic in the military. I did a deployment right before I got out where I worked with MPs and SPs in the Air Force. I thought I really enjoyed that and thought I would do that, but it didn’t end up that way,” White says.

White says he has a passion for what he’s doing and he’s certainly doing all that he can to the fullest. From being there tending to people firsthand or teaching those who will have an impact in the future, White is a comfort to many around him.

“It goes from being there to hold an elderly person’s hand and telling them it’s going to be okay, even though they aren’t that sick, to actually being there when somebody really needs you,” White explains. “It’s not for glory or fame. That’s not why we do it. It’s that sense of ease at night when you lay your head down to know you did something to help somebody.”

White says his passion for helping others does consume much of his life, but he does find time for his family. He has two children and his wife Cassie that teaches.

“Parker White is my 3-year-old son and I have a 10 month old daughter named Anlyn Grace White. They are definitely the reason I love clocking out. They are the only reasons I look forward to clocking out now,” White explains.

White says he will always continue his push and passion to help others for as long as possible.

“Until the day comes where I can’t get out of bed and do it anymore this is what I want to do,” White says.
