Paramedic Stops Ambulance To Deliver Baby

MASON CITY, Iowa — A paramedic helped deliver a baby in an ambulance earlier this week.

Paige Lohmann knew there wasn’t much time before delivery. Time between her contractions had shortened dramatically. Paige knew she was about to deliver.

“I was just shocked by how fast everything was going, I was nervous, scared,” said Paige.

The couple called 911, and Mason City Fire paramedics responded. However, paramedics pulled over after Lohmann went into active labor.

“When she told me that it was coming, that’s when I knew it was coming,” paramedic Neil Maki said.

After the delivery, Lohmann was transported to the hospital with her newborn son. This was Maki’s first time delivering a baby.

“It’s nice to be on a call that’s exciting rather than some of the other ones that aren’t so good for us, makes you feel like that’s why you’re doing what you’re doing,” Maki said.
