Mercy Air has been serving the Imperial County for thirty years.
“In the Imperial Valley we transport critically ill people. People that have suffered strokes, heart attacks, and even sick children,” said Russell Haight, Mercy Air flight nurse.
Mercy Air says many of their calls are for people who have been injured in an accident.
“So if we land out of Glamis and we have to care for someone in the dunes, which the season is coming up. We are able to support them and rapidly transport them to a facility where they will get the appropriate care,” said Haight.
Their helicopter is an ICU in the air and is fully equipped with the proper medical tools.
“Once we get on scene, we’ll assess our patient. Our goal time is ten mins and once we’re in transport we are taking care of that patient,” said Ryan Morgan, Mercy Air flight paramedic.
Mercy Air said time is of the essence. The faster they can transport a patient to a hospital the greater chance that person has at survival.
Tara Signore loves flying, as a little girl she always knew she wanted to be a pilot, but she never imagined she would have the privilege of helping save peoples lives.
“We try to remove ourselves from the actual emergency and that’s really important from the aviation side. My role is to get us their safely and legally. The crews in the back they’re the ones saving that life back there,” said Signore, Mercy Air pilot.
“We treat everyone like family, and we want everyone to have that care,” said Haight.
