LifeNet of New York Center Stage at Indian River Ambulance MCI

PHILADELPHIA, NY — This week LifeNet of New York participated in a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) staged by Indian River Ambulance Service.

Indian River Ambulance Service, founded in 2010, hosted their first ever Mass Casualty Incident this week.

As reported on the Indian River Ambulance Service facebook page:

Although these incidents are rare in small communities, they can happen. Having the opportunity to train with this type of practice allows EMS providers, fire responders and law enforcement to work within Incident Command System, safety and extrication operations, triage, treatment and transport modalities, as well as resource allocation.

The MCI we planned was small in comparison to others.

We had 12 patients.

Providers had to assess and determine their level of triage for further treatment and transport. Trainings like this are geared toward preparedness. Ours was not only for preparedness but growth too making our MCI drill a success. The growth of our new and advancing providers is something that is extremely important to our agency.

Indian River Ambulance Service thanked the following participants at the MCI:

Philadelphia Fire, Theresa Fire, Antwerp Fire, Gouverneur Rescue and LifeNet 7-10 for attending and making our first MCI drill possible.
