Emergency Medical Helicopter Service Returns to the Valley

MCALLEN, TEXAS – Medical helicopter transportation is back in the Rio Grande Valley.

The only company that provided this service closed its doors in January.

At the moment, a pilot, a nurse and a paramedic are on standby waiting for a call to treat and transport patients.

Army veteran, and now pilot, Tara Sveden and flight nurse Jessica Jones started their flight missions last week, covering the entire Valley.

The all woman crew have already transported two people from rural areas in Starr County and Linn-San Manuel to local hospitals.

South Texas AirMed explained to CHANNEL 5 NEWS what the air service means for the Valley.
