Former Five Finger Death Punch Drummer Becomes Cop

ROCKPORT, Ind.  – The Rockport Police Department just swore in a new officer: Jeremy Spencer, former drummer of Five Finger Death Punch.

Spencer was voted the “Best Drummer of 2015” by Loudwire, but Sunday he put down the drum sticks and traded them in for a police badge.

At 19-years-old, Jeremy Spencer left his hometown of Boonville, Indiana.

“I’m kind of relearning where things are in my house now. Like where the cups are, you know, because I was gone. It’s been really cool to just kind of do a normal situation for a while,” said Spencer.

In 2005, Jeremy became the drummer of Five Finger Death Punch, a metal band that’s known all over the U.S.

“It was amazing and it brings back memories watching it now. I kind of remember some of these shows and it’s very cool,” said Spencer.

Just at the end of 2018, Jeremy decided to walk away from the band and Sunday, he was sworn into a different one.

“I’m basically taking what I did in the band and just applying it to this, and trying to do the best I can,” said Spencer.

The Rockport Police Department has been training Jeremy to become one of their own, a group he’s always looked up to.

“You just see the impact they have on everyone’s life. It’s so important,” said Jeremy.

A job different from the one he’s had for the past 14-years, but one he finds just as rewarding.

“Life’s about experience, so to me this was great and I think this is going to be great now,” said Jeremy.

For you Five Finger Death Punch fans that are sad that Jeremy is leaving music, think again, because this police gig is only part time.

“I am busy, I have other projects that I’m doing. Just because I’m no longer in the band didn’t mean I retired”

Jeremy currently splits his time between Rockport and Las Vegas.

He is now officially a part of the Rockport Police Department part time and is looking forward to serving the community he knows and loves.
