Honor Flight Maryland recognizes local veterans

 – Honor Flight Maryland celebrated local veterans on Saturday with a tour of D.C.’s monuments and memorials.

The group of veterans from several wars – including World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War – met for breakfast early in the morning before boarding a bus bound for the District.

For 101-year-old World War II veteran Vivian Bailey, the moment is another milestone.

“I feel blessed that I’m able to do it and I’m able to be active,” Bailey said.

The Honor Flight program is a national non-profit organization that honors our country’s veterans by transporting them to D.C. to visit memorials in their honor.

“These are complete strangers. By the end of the day they’ll be friends for life.  It’s a fraternity, a sorority, coming together,” said Honor Flight Maryland Founder Jon Yespa.
